local FixturesFIXTURE LIST – A RANDOM SELECTION OF FORTHCOMING RACES TO TEMPT YOU OUT AND ABOUT IN A CLUB VEST!
FOREST OF DEAN parkrun Launch date 24th April 2010 The aim of parkrun is to organise free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in. parkruns are traffic free. There are now over 30 parkruns around the country and interest from several other countries. Most parkruns are as the name suggests run in open parks. It would be quite a challenge in the FOD to find a 5km traffic free course on parkland without running several laps. This is a joint venture between the Forest of Dean District Council, The Forestry Commission and the The Forest of Dean Athletic Club. Other partners are Five Acres LC, RFDC and Lakers school. The sponsors of parkrun are Nike, Sweatshop, The London Marathon and Lucozade Sport. They do not provide direct finanicl support. They do provide T shirts a monthly prize and nutrional advice s given by the Lucozade representative. They also provide race equipment to make organising the event as easy as possible. The FOD parkrun has it's pilot run on the 17th April 2010. The first offical run is 24th April 2010 The area opposite the Five Acres LC, RFDC and Lakers schools has been chosen for several reasons. There are good parking facilities, it is close to a lot of residential houses, close to the FOD athletic club headquarters. It is run at a time when a lot of children are training at the club. This will give parets the chance to run or help at the events. On a weekly basis we will need a minimum of 6 volunteers: * 1 volunteer Race Director * 1 volunteer Timer: responsible for operating the timing device * 2 volunteers Registration: responsible for entering the finish positions onto our computer system at the finish * 1 volunteer Numbers: responsible for handing the position tokens to all runners finishers as they cross the finish line * 1 volunteer Numbers checker: responsible for keeping a record of synchronisation between timer and numbers (Marshals if needed - most of the time we try not to need any) We will be having a training session for the race directors and those heading the use of the computers on 16.04.10 This training session should take a couple of hours and we'll then know how to manage our volunteers and the events by using the software, how to use the timing device and how to set up the event in terms of organisation (use the tokens, organise the finish area, etc...). During the Pilot Run (on the 17/4/10) we’ll do another short training session and show the volunteers how do set up the event, how to do the registration and how to use the timing device. We need to start to identify among our team of volunteers who could have these responsibilities. The more volunteers we get the less often an individual will be asked to help. There may be some who will turn up regularly. To enter a parkrun everyone has to log on to www.parkrun.com . On the home page under welcome to parkrun bottom of the page it says;
