Avon League - 19 June 2005
A congested weekend of fixtures meant Forest of Dean AC could only muster
a small but enthusiastic team for the first Avon league fixture. However,
what they lacked in numbers, they more than made up for in vocal support.
Ben Jones, a young, up and coming 800m runner, elected to make his second
appearance of the weekend, albeit on this occasion as a sprinter. His efforts
were rewarded with personal bests over both the 100 and 200metres. Nico
Constanti was another who dropped down in distance and exhibited his considerable
potential with outstanding runs over 100 and 200metres.
It was also a good day for the Chidley family; 11 year old Melissa destroyed
her best time for the 1500 metres by 24 seconds and set a personal best
for 200m. Not to be out done by his sister, 13 year old Ryan, lowered his
best 800 metre time by 3 seconds. There were also bests for 11 year old
Gethin Richards in the 800 metres and Richard de-Camps in the 3000 metres.
Victories were hard to come by but were achieved by Danielle Cinderey-Smith
in the 1500m, who the previous day had set a personal best for 800 metres
at the South West Schools’ Championships, Nick Walker who had firsts in
the 110 metres hurdles, shot putt and veterans’ 100 metres and Joyce Barrus,
veterans’1500 metres. The only other victory came in the last event of the
day when a “guest” team consisting of 3 runners with an average age of 15,
supplemented by veteran Nick Walker, romped to victory in the senior men’s
4 x 400m relay, bringing an entertaining end to a highly enjoyable for all
the young athletes.
Andrew de Camps became the 1st club athlete to have competed in the league
in every age group from u11 right through to Senior. Results:
